Umbrelladays.
Have you ever heard of them?
I have, because in my life, there have been certain moments which made out a simple, ordinary day an umbrelladay. And with that, I don't mean that it just began to rain. That would be too simply. That's not what an umbrelladay is for me.
An umbrelladay is something else.
Maybe you habe experienced one or two in your life, or maybe you experience them all the time, like I do. I know them too well, so well, that I should probably always carry an umbrella with me, no matter how sunny it is.
So maybe you came across those situations.
You sit in class and suddenly a difficult question from the teacher hits you like an arrow and you don't know what to answer though everyone is staring at you. Or you have to do a presentation in front of 20, 30 people, and at once the words in your head disappear and you are gasping for them like a drowning man for air, not able to make up only one reasonable sentence. Or when you are at a party where you barely know anyone and you have the feeling that there's a big spotlight pointing directly at you because you are standing alone in this crowded room nervously chewing your lip. Or you walk down the street without expecting any danger, when suddenly someone you really don't want to see stands in front of you. You don't know what to say or do because there's this awkward tension between you two in the air. Like it's with someone you once loved but who is actually an idiot. Or just some strange person from your past who brings up things in your mind you don't want to deal with.
These are just some of hundreds of examples for what an umbrelladay is.
It's is a day you wish a umbrella would pop up out of nowhere, so you could open it and hide.
You might think that inside a building or under a cloudless sky this would be ridiculous to do, but in such a moment you would want to hide and escape anyhow and anywhere if you just could. If you only could.
But life doesn't work that way. There is no umbrella-emergency-call or a free-umbrella-point to save you. Or someone who just falls from the sky or jumps out of a bush to hand you one. And yes, maybe you don't want to carry an umbrella with you all the time either.
So often you just have to get over the embarrassing moments like most of the peeple do without thinking of hiding behind umbrellas. But when you're in your room later on, don't you hear the voices in your head saying that you messed it up again? That you should have done it differently? You suddenly know the words you couldn't find in your empty head. You imagine how the situation could have been if you only knew what to do.
So you are sitting there realizing that today was a perfect umbrelladay.

I'd never heard of umbrelladays, but I'm pretty sure I have them quite often. :)
